P02.1 - Public : On your arrival at DESY and P02.1

When you arrive, you must register at the main gate (Notkestraße 85) by filling in a form. If you are staying at the DESY hostel you will also be able to pick up your key from here.

Before you can start the beamtime you must also have your DACHS card. Corona tests are no longer required, however it is still strongly recommended to make a antigen test before your arrival at DESY. For more info on this, please see the user office website (link below).

The procedure for this will depend on when your beamtime starts:

In all cases: your entire team should be present from the first day to receive the required trainings and instructions from your local contact.

  • Beamtime starts on a weekend or public holidays:
    • You will be able to have the DACHS card made at the main gate when you register.

Arrival at the beamline

You will find the beamline in the north end of the Max von Laue hall (building 47c) where your local contact will be there to greet you at 9 AM in front of the control hutch (please do not enter unasked).

Once you have arrived, preparation of your experimental setup will begin. If you are using a standard setup available from P02.1, your local contact will be installing this for you. If, however, you have your own setup, your local contact will prepare beamline for you to install it.

Once everything is installed, all participants will receive instructions on safety and how to operate the beamline and in the chemistry laboratory (Lab L016). Note if you have requested to use another laboratory than the P02.1 lab (e.g. L031), you will have to organise an introduction with the laboratory responsible. See more here: https://confluence.desy.de/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=138007805

Once all instructions have been completed, you can start the experiments.

In order to ensure a good coordination and efficient use of your beamtime, discuss with your local contact your experimental plan in detail, especially if there are changes during the measurements that require the presence of your local contact (change of sample-to-detector distance, exchange of gas bottles, refilling of dewars with liquid nitrogen, etc.).

Please be punctual to your appointments with your local contact and follow the safety instructions carefully.
